When did St. Kosmas Academy’s story begin?

Our story began in May 2019 when Saint Nicholas Russian Cathedral in Seattle, Washington, extended an invitation to those interested in starting Orthodox schools in the state.

Who was involved in inspiring the school's founding?

Elizabeth Fitzgerald, the guest speaker at Saint Nicholas Russian Cathedral, shared her experiences starting Orthodox schools in Yakima and Walla Walla, Washington. Her enthusiasm and guidance inspired many, and she provided extensive information on the process of starting new Orthodox Christian schools.

What is the current status of St. Kosmas Academy?

We have become a federal non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, registered as a school in Washington. We are pending private school approval through the State Board of Education and are recognized by Washington state as a tax-exempt entity. Our opening date is set for August 2025!

Who is responsible for the school’s leadership?

We have a dedicated Board of Trustees consisting of nine members from various parishes and educational backgrounds. This team is fully committed to the success of St. Kosmas Academy and the education of the children in our community.
